4 builders who never spoke to each other
Send each subscriber the thing they told you they want
Capturing who someone is and what they came for at signup lets every later email speak to the problem that person named at signup, instead of a blanket announcement aimed at nobody. The same tagging carries the placement that recruited them and the products they already bought, so you stop pitching things people own and start pitching what fits.
The method
- 01
Capture who each subscriber is and where they are in their journey at signup, then segment so the emails answer the problem that person actually named.
- 02
Replace blanket product announcements to your list with a loop that watches which topics each subscriber engages with and only ever pitches the product matching that interest.
- 03
Tag subscribers by the placement that brought them in, then send that group its own welcome offer, coupon or personal note rather than the generic sequence.
- 04
When the addressable audience is capped, stop optimising acquisition and move the effort to keeping people: a proper onboarding sequence, segmentation, and surveys asking what they want.
- 05
Tag every buyer by the product they bought inside your email tool, so you can aim coupons at the right people and stop pitching a thing someone already owns.
What it returned
- $11,000
Maia was building this on top of an Instagram community, in a month where she took $11,000.
Dunn calls this his promo loop and lists it as an unfinished asset on Double Your Freelancing, alongside personalisation code already running on the site.
Geoff Sharpe hit the ceiling on local growth and shifted focus to retention, doubling down on unique content, a welcome series, audience segmentation and reader surveys.
MailerLite groups split course, ebook and other product buyers, and course customers drop out of the general course newsletter.

Three plays a week, for the phase you are in
No roundup of links, no news. Three tactics more than one builder arrived at separately, with the numbers each one returned and the disagreements left in.
