Chase the front page for list growth alone
Volume, not conversion, is the argument for aggregator traffic before you have anything to sell. One post that sat on the front page for most of a day built a list of roughly a thousand names, and another writer saw fifty subscribers arrive in a day when a piece was featured. Score it on names captured, because almost nobody in that crowd is buying.
The method

Aggregator front pages are worth chasing for list growth even at a poor conversion rate, because the raw volume still produces signups.
What it returned
- 1,000
Justin's list of about 1,000 came mostly from one post sitting on Hacker News for roughly 11 hours; Nathan Barry saw jumps of 50 subscribers in a day when an article was featured there.
