a single source, nothing corroborates it
Skip affiliate deals for your first customers
Negotiating a promotion costs hours before it produces anything, cannot be repeated on demand, and drops a wave of support tickets on you at once. Tyler Tringas prefers channels with a short loop where a little effort reliably yields one customer. He also points out that the deals which ate weeks of calls and produced nothing are the ones nobody ever writes up.
The method
- 01
Discount the affiliate and partnership success stories you hear, because nobody publicises the deals that ate dozens of hours of calls and emails and produced nothing.
- 02
Skip affiliate deals early on: beyond the setup time they are one-off events you cannot repeat, and they dump a wave of support tickets on you.
- 03
Favour channels with a short repeatable loop of a little effort producing one customer, and avoid ones needing heavy setup before they produce anything, such as negotiating an affiliate arrangement or standing up retargeting.
What it returned
The author cites hearing about a wildly successful AppSumo promotion as the survivorship-bias example
