Turn footage you already have into the ad

The cheapest creative is material that already exists. A restaurant recut its own security footage of a robbery with captions reframing it as comedy the day after it happened and reached five million views. A cinema chain played an ejected customer's furious voicemail before its films, which took five million views and national news coverage. Both cost nothing to shoot because neither was shot.

The method

  1. 01

Recut real footage you already own and add captions that reframe the event as a comedy, rather than shooting anything new.

  2. 02

Take an angry complaint from a customer you were right to refuse and turn the recording into your advertisement.

What it returned

  • 16

Frijoles & Frescas Tacos was robbed on 16 December 2015; the manager released captioned security footage the next day, 5M views

  • 2011

Alamo Drafthouse played an ejected customer's furious voicemail before films in 2011; 5M views and national news pickup
