2 builders who never spoke to each other
Make the signup route impossible to miss
Nobody goes looking for a list no matter how good the writing is, so the ask sits in the navbar, at the end of every article, on a page of its own and in an exit popup. The repeat ask converts people who effectively declined already: one site's exit popup produced half of all its signups, and firing it on exit rather than a timer avoids interrupting the read.
The method
- 01
Make the signup route unmissable, because nobody will hunt for your email list however good the work is.
- 02
Offer four separate signup entry points so a visitor is never more than one click away: a fixed navbar, the end of every article, an exit popup, and a standalone page.
- 03
Build a dedicated subscribe page so anything you publish elsewhere can link straight at the list instead of costing you a website visit first.
- 04
Run the exit popup even though visitors already passed an inline signup box; the repeat ask converts people who had effectively declined.
- 05
Trigger the popup on exit intent rather than on a timer, so you never interrupt someone mid-article.

No roundup of links, no news. Three tactics more than one builder arrived at separately, with the numbers each one returned and the disagreements left in.
