Make them pay before the thing exists
Replies, signups and encouragement cost nothing to give and predict nothing. Put a payment link under the offer and the answer arrives in hours: builders across newsletters, post mortems and indie SaaS all report presales landing within a day or not at all. A dollar changing hands is a categorically different signal from a free account, though one operator warns that followers who buy on impulse are not the same as customers.
Where this splits
Restagno counts a presold lifetime deal as the strongest validation available and also warns that the same buyers, drawn from his own following, bought on impulse and never used the product.

Take payment before building, only money proves demand
- 01Stop treating stated interest as validation and ask for payment, because what people say they would pay and what they hand over are different tests.
- 02Count a payment as the only proof of demand and discount signups, waitlists and encouragement.
A payment from your own followers can still mislead
Treat lifetime deal sales to your own followers with suspicion: people who like you buy on impulse and then never use the product, which reads as validation and is not.
- 03Charge something rather than nothing. A single dollar changing hands is a different signal entirely from a free sign-up.
- 04Replies saying they want it are not validation; attach a payment link so interest has to convert into a transaction.
- 05Pre-sell a lifetime deal from a landing page rather than collecting emails, because only a payment is a real signal, and add a refund guarantee to make buying easy.
What it returned

Stated as the gap between any payment at all and none.
He created a Stripe product and posted the link underneath the original tweet after a reader pointed out the gap.
