7 builders who never spoke to each other
Turn the service into a product with a public price
Custom work priced job by job cannot be sold twice, so fix the scope, publish the number, and the same engagement becomes repeatable and eventually saleable. Operators run this as a flat monthly subscription with a kanban board, a price per named deliverable, a training session plus a written plan, or a quote derived from two variables the customer can supply without a site visit. Volume alone will not rescue a commoditised service, so move the offer toward doing the whole job rather than advising on part of it.
The method
- 01
Turn the problem you keep solving into a named framework and sell that, so hesitant buyers have a defined thing to purchase instead of an open-ended retainer.
- 02
Package the productized service as a training session, a written plan and a feedback round, then add a longer coaching tier for the clients who cannot execute the plan alone.
- 03
Repackage custom consulting as a fixed-scope, fixed-price service so it can be sold repeatedly and eventually sold outright.
- 04
Convert bespoke freelance work into a productized service or a course once the delivery is repeatable, so income stops scaling only with your hours.
- 05
Recognise that a commoditised service cannot be fixed by selling more of it: volume alone leaves the same margin problem in place.
