4 builders who never spoke to each other
Treat needing an explanation as a conversion bug
If prospects still do not understand what you do, that is your failure to explain rather than their failure to follow, and every extra sentence of education stands between them and the purchase. A visitor gives you a few seconds and decides from words, not motion. Name one problem and solve it, and if the problem takes more than ten seconds to describe you do not understand it well enough yet.
The method
- 01
Do not assume buyers will work out your value for themselves. Businesses that grow have an offer whose benefit is obvious on sight.
- 02
Selling to small businesses behaves more like consumer marketing: name one problem and solve it. If the problem takes longer than ten seconds to explain you do not understand it yet.
- 03
A mission a buyer has to work to understand is a conversion problem. Every extra sentence of explanation sits between them and the purchase.
- 04
If prospects still do not understand what you do, that is an explanation problem on your side, not a comprehension problem on theirs.
- 05
Answer what the product is in words within the first few seconds, because that is all the time a visitor gives you, and animation does not answer it.
What it returned
- 5
Visitors are said to decide inside 5 seconds whether the product is worth their attention.
Surveying local firms, the founder found only one whose value was not immediately clear, and its owner had taken around eight years to make it work.
The founder names customers struggling to grasp the company's mission as its single biggest disadvantage, and says educating them past the point of purchase has been a fight since day one.
Three years into operating, the founder still met people who did not grasp what Bugfender was, and reads that as his own failure to explain it.

Three plays a week, for the phase you are in
No roundup of links, no news. Three tactics more than one builder arrived at separately, with the numbers each one returned and the disagreements left in.
