Copy the sites too young to have won on links
Find domains under two years old that already rank well, because authority cannot explain them: freshness and on-page work must, and both are available to you. Pull the whole keyword and backlink profile of any young site you catch in the first two pages. The check runs by hand for free, at around $150 with a scraper and proxies, or on APIs above $500.
The method
- 01
Find the terms that sites under two years old already rank well for, because a young site cannot have won on authority, so freshness and on-page work must be doing it and you can do the same.
- 02
Run the cheap version by hand first: search each seed term, put every unfamiliar ranking domain through a WHOIS lookup, and when a young one shows up in the first two pages, pull its whole keyword and backlink profile.
- 03
Scale the same check for about $150: scrape the results in bulk, batch the domains through a free bulk WHOIS tool, and buy shared proxies or Google will block the IP you are working from.
- 04
Above roughly $500 hand both jobs to APIs: one service to return search results at any volume, another to return domain registration dates, then join the two.
- 05
Remember a registration date is not a site age: this method only surfaces recently registered domains and will miss a new project running on an old domain.
What it returned
- 500
Glen Allsopp restricts the seed list to terms at 500 to 5,000 monthly searches: under 500 is not worth targeting, and above 5,000 rarely has young sites ranking. He calls it the single smartest thing he has done in thirteen years of SEO, and says the same data handed him his best link sources and niche ideas too.
- $99
Scrapebox sells for around $99 and URLProfiler's SERPScraper is free. Bulk WHOIS tools take batches of 500 domains. BuyProxies.org offer 50 semi-dedicated proxies for $40 over 30 days with no contract. Glen Allsopp flags that scraping results breaks Google's terms of service.
- $500
DataForSEO removes the need for Scrapebox and proxies but requires a $500 minimum deposit once the trial ends. WhoAPI starts at $16 a month for 6,000 WHOIS requests. Glen Allsopp says he had no affiliate relationship with either.
Glen Allsopp says one good hit is enough, because a single young site with many top rankings gives you a long list of terms to chase. Tools named for the profile check: Ahrefs, SimilarWeb and SEMrush.
