Cut the busywork out of keyword research

Small mechanical shortcuts compound across a research session: set Google to return a hundred results and lift the whole list into a crawler, open one query in several tools from a single click, filter by language to see genuine foreign demand rather than translated guesses, and read a ranking Wikipedia article's public pageview count as an upper bound on the term.

The method

   Load one query into several tools at once from a single click, and use the same trick to check a ranking across different country versions of Google side by side.

   Set Google to return 100 results per page, then pull every URL off the results page in one go and feed the list straight into a crawler.

   Estimate the traffic ceiling on a keyword by looking up the public pageview count of the Wikipedia article that ranks for it.

   Use a language filter in keyword research to isolate the non-English versions of a term, so an international content plan is built on the actual foreign-language demand rather than translated guesses.

What it returned

• Glen Allsopp opens Ubersuggest, Google Trends and Wordtracker together on one term. Any tool that carries the query in its URL works; he names AnswerThePublic as one that does not. Chrome treats the second and later tabs as popups until you allow them once for the site you trigger it from.

• The setting lives in Google's own search settings, which removes the need for an extension to page through results. Glen Allsopp takes the extracted list into Screaming Frog.

• Wikipedia publishes pageviews openly, so a Wikipedia page ranking well for a term gives an upper bound on what Google sends that term. Caveat given: one Wikipedia page ranks for many terms.

• Example given: separating suggestions for table tennis in English from tennis de table in French.
