2 builders who never spoke to each other

Name the tiers so buyers can sort themselves

Labels that describe a kind of buyer let people find their own row without reading every feature, and the individual option belongs on the page rather than one step into checkout. Keep an entry option for people who do not trust you yet or whose exchange rate makes your normal price impossible. Past a handful of choices the effect reverses, because too many options produce no sale at all.

The method

  1. 01

Name your plan tiers so every kind of buyer can find themselves, and show the individual option up front rather than one step into checkout.

  2. 02

Keep a cheap entry-level option for buyers who do not yet trust you or who live where the exchange rate makes your normal price impossible.

  3. 03

Differentiate tiers with things that are not more of the same product: archived content, harder material, a private community, group mentorship or live Q&A.

  4. 04

Too many purchase options create decision paralysis and produce no sale at all, so make the choice for the customer

What it returned

  • $39

Tiers labelled freelancer, agency and big agency fitted none of Justin's situation; the $39 personal licence only appeared after he clicked buy, and he nearly left first.

  • 500

iCodeThis tiers unlocked 500+ challenges, video tutorials, project roadmaps and a private community; the top tier added group mentorship.

  • Basis for collapsing ten individually sold courses into three packages
