3 builders who never spoke to each other

Assume the opening number is too low and move it

Founders set the first price from interviews and nerves, and it is nearly always under what the market bears. Once the first wave of buyers lands, lift it and watch whether sales continue rather than holding the launch price out of anxiety. Some run the increase as a mechanic in itself, stepping the number up after each sale or with each relaunch, so waiting visibly costs the buyer money and early buyers feel rewarded.

The method

  1. 01

Raise the price once the threshold is hit and see whether sales continue, instead of holding the launch price out of nervousness.

  2. 02

Raise the price by a fixed step after each sale so early buyers are rewarded and later ones feel the clock.

  3. 03

Your first price will be too cheap. Leadsie set an arbitrary number based on interviews and later raised it in stages.

  4. 04

Raise the price of the upper tiers on your next product rather than the entry tier: revenue per visitor can rise even when conversion rate falls

  5. 05

Relaunch the same product every few months, raising the price and adding value each time, so your audience learns that waiting costs them money.

What it returned

  • $39

Price moved from $39 to $49 after the first wave and buyers kept coming.

  • $1,000

Opened at $1,000 and added $100 per sale, with 10 slots and a $2,000 price once they sold out.

  • $29

Tiers moved from $29/$59/$129 to $29/$79/$199; sales-page conversion dropped from 3.9% to 2.9% but revenue per visitor rose from $2.27 to $2.42, and three-day revenue from $18,488 to $34,955

  • $20,000

Jeff Goins's Tribe Writers launches started around $20,000 and grew with every reopening
