Strip the hashtags and bury the link at the end

Reshares carry far more reach than tags do, and people are pickier about what they will put their own name behind. A post with little blue text in the body reads as something worth passing on rather than as marketing, so tags belong only on a genuinely named campaign.

The method

  1. 01

Strip hashtags out and park the link at the very end so the tweet reads clean, since people are choosier about what they will retweet.

  2. 02

Reserve hashtags for an actual named campaign; retweets grow reach far more than hashtags do, and piling hashtags on suppresses them.

What it returned

  • Author's rule of thumb is to minimise blue text in the tweet body.

  • Author gives branded campaign tags as the exception where they still earn their place.
