Make the launch an event people turn up to

An occasion your own network attends can carry a launch that a web page cannot, and it can fund one too. Scott Harrison started a charity off a party whose entire profit became the first budget, and Alex Hillman ran a summit programmed against every time zone rather than one region's office hours. Events you do not own are a different proposition.

Where this splits

Events the founder runs carried two launches here, while Nathan Barry's webinar just before a sale closed produced no sales he could trace and Cory Zue found a trade show actively policing promotion by non-exhibitors.

Run your own event and launch from it

    Alex Hillman · Scott Harrison

    1. 1Get a venture off the ground through an event your existing network already shows up to, and put the takings straight into the thing you are launching.
    2. 2For a genuinely international audience, run the event continuously for a full day and put programming into every time zone, instead of picking one region's business hours.
  2. side 02 · 2 claims

Events you do not own produce no sales

    Cory Zue · Nathan Barry

    1. 1Do not count on a launch webinar to close sales; the people who show up tend to be there for free content.
    2. 2Do not count on marketing in person at trade shows for your niche, since organisers actively police promotion by outsiders.

What it returned

  • 24

People At Work ran 24 hours straight from noon Eastern on 21 April 2016, with speakers programmed against each time zone.

  • 70

Roughly 70 attendees at the webinar run just before the sale closed, and no sales he could attribute to it

  • Scott Harrison started charity: water by running a party whose entire profit funded the charity, using the wealthy contacts and venue owners he had accumulated over ten years promoting parties in New York.

  • Zue went to the Cape Town Wedding Expo to market his place card site and did nothing because signage threatened non-exhibitors
